About the West
Orchestra
West is Anchorage, AK's first high school - over fifty
years old. The orchestra has grown along with the school.
We're currently a seventy-student orchestra spanning
Spenard, Government Hill, downtown, Turnagain, and Midtown,
as well as other parts of town. Our experience ranges from
three-year students to those who started playing in their
preschool years.
We perform local concerts on a regular basis during the
school year - roughly once a month - as well as additional
gigs to support our ever-growing orchestra. In the past,
we've played at the Ted Stevens Int'l. Airport, the Pioneer
Home, the 5th Avenue Mall, and local elementary schools.
West High is located at:
1700 Hillcrest Drive
Anchorage, AK 99517
and classes are in the Band Room, directly above the
auditorium entrance.
About Our
Conductor
We are a very enthusiastic orchestra! And the person
responsible is our conductor, Ms. Gabrielle Willis. She
entices us all to class on a more-than-daily basis - and
occasionally gets us to concerts herself - through her
energy, her warm heart, and her talent as both a teacher
and a musician.
